Mountaineering with the Sony A7s with Zeiss 24-70mm FE by burnymeister

Sony A7s with Zeiss 24-70mm FE by burnymeister @24mm, Aperture: f/8, ISO 25600, 20s Shutter Speed Vern D took his Sony A7s and Zeiss 24-70mm FE OSS on a mountaineering adventure. The A7s low light capability counteracts the Zeiss 24-70mm maximum aperture of f/4. The max aperture is at f/4 in order to keep the Zeiss 24-70mm as a small and light package. Vern's lightweight full frame kit went to Mount Woolley, Diadem, Little Alberta and Mushroom Peak providing excellent images day or night. This can be useful when the camera is not held in the standard position and the shutter button is at an awkward position to depress. This is not possible with the sony a6000 . The chart below is a quick comparison between the Sony a5100 and the a6000. Watch the a5100 touch shutter in action in the video below from goodphoto.kr.

Sony E-mount Lens Roadmap Updated

Image
Updated Lens Roadmap for E-mount Cameras Macro G Lens and High Speed Prime Zeiss Added to 2014 Release We just noticed that the E-mount lens roadmap has been updated to provide detail to the two upcoming lenses. The roadmap suggests that we will see three more lenses before years end. One will be a Sony G Macro lens - our guess? 100mm f/2.8 macro, similar to the Sony 100mm macro . The other lens will be a Zeiss high speed prime lens - our guess? 24mm f/1.4 maybe more of a wish. This lens could be based on the NEX's 24mm f/1.8 ZA Sonnar or the A-mount Zeiss 24mm f/2 Distagon .

Sony a6000 Autofocus vs Bird In Flight

Image
Osprey Incoming Caught by Jack Scholl and the Sony A6000 Jack Scholl took out the Sony A6000 for some bird-in-flight shots. Here is what Jack S posted: The following is a 9 shot burst (we had 12 but didn't want to violate the 10 shot rule) with the A6000/SEL18200. The osprey is coming right at us and fast. The first 9 shots are OOC with no PP other than crop. The last is a simple standard LR preset of the last shot. We have shot BIF with Canon, Nikon and now Sony . . . this is a very good AF system in our opinion. Check out the whole 9 shot series from the A6000 at dpreview . This is pretty impressive for a mirrorless system.

Sony 70-200mm FE E-mount Lens Review by DxOMark

Image
DxOMark tests the new Sony 70-200mm f/4 G FE lens on the A7r and finds that it performs well against the competition. This lens would also work great with the fast autofocus of the Sony A6000 with an equivalent field of view of 135-300mm on the aps-c sensor. From the DxOMark review: The Sony’s performance is very good and sharpness levels are very high, and even though it can’t quite match the best in class – the Nikkor 70-200mm f4 - at 200mm, it’s still unlikely to disappoint. Coming bundled with a tripod collar, the Sony even slightly undercuts the rival Nikkor model, making the FE 70-200mm f4G OSS look good value without compromising on quality or practical features. The speed burst is bumped up to 11 fps. All this while keeping the same NEX-6 price for the A6000 body at $648 . The silver looks a bit like champagne and looks handsome with the black grip. Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 in Cape May

Image
We thoroughly enjoyed the Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 Distagon on a recent trip. We spent a few days in Cape May, NJ with the Touit 12mm glued onto the NEX-7. We are still learning this ultra wide angle lens, at 18mm efov on the NEX, most everything will be in frame. We are somewhat addicted to the NEX-7's level feature which helps minimize converging vertical lines with such a wide lens. We also depended on the NEX-7's autofocus mode while using focus-recompose to frame. Here are a few shots from the trip. They are all RAW converted shots.
